Areias do Seixo Villas were designed by the architect @vascovieiraarquitectos . The decoration architecture bears the signature of Rosario Gabriel. Working closely with the owners, she accompanied the construction process almost from its inception. She is responsible for much of the interior design details. Isabel Schedel - whose touches are evident throughout - began working with us a few months before the hotel opened, as decorator.

The development of the Villas design has always considered the surrounding landscape harmony. Materials such as regional stone, pebble, glass, and wood prevail, with natural finishing touches and polished concrete.

These materials and decoration have come together to produce a unique spellbinding space. This hotel is an ecological place that applies the principles of sustainable tourism: energy efficiency, renewable energies, and the use of natural resources.

DL VALMOR PALACE The Iconic House

On Avenida da República, at numbers 38 and 38A, @dearlisbon has 12 suites and reminds us of Paris Country Houses, with its classic and eclectic style, works of art and antiques. The furniture used serves to balance the time-travel effect and bring us nowadays comfort.

We can admire one of the few palatial houses that survived the demolitions, in what was once one of the main thoroughfares of the capital.

Classified as a Property of Public Interest since 1977, it was awarded the Valmor Prize in 1906, as published in the Annuario da “Sociedade dos Architectos Portuguezes”, and in the magazine “A Architectura Portugueza”.

Curiously, the house of the family of the person who bequeathed the prize in 1877 would also benefit from the title jointly with the architect who built it.

Designed by architect Miguel Ventura Terra, it was for the widow of the Viscount of Valmor, Dona Josefina Clarisse de Oliveira. It reveals a great unity in its urban integration, an aspect visible in the harmonious arrangement of its irregular plan, and in the movement suggested by the various planes and the balance of the 3 volumes that make up the building.

Clad in smooth stone, its decoration reflects eclecticism, combining Neo-Romanesque, Neoclassical, and Art Nouveau elements, as well as alluding to the “Portuguese House” pattern.

Despite resembling a house, it was actually intended to be an income-generating building. The house is situated on a 1,280 square meter plot, which gives it even greater visibility and notoriety.

The renovation was guided by a simple conviction: to honour what was already there. Rather than imposing a new narrative, the project set out to listen to the one the house itself had long been telling. Original floors, ornate ceilings, balconies, fireplaces, shutters and joinery were meticulously restored, preserving the elements that, over generations, have shaped its character.

Spanning 784 square metres across three floors, the house retains the spatial logic that has always supported its role as a family home. The main level brings together four bedrooms, three of them en suite, alongside a series of living rooms, a library, a media room and supporting domestic areas. Spaces unfold with quiet ease, revealing an architecture designed as much for gathering as for retreat.

The result is a house that does not attempt to appear new. Instead, it celebrates the passage of time and the richness of its history, adapting to the demands of contemporary living without losing the authenticity that makes it unique.

“Our work begins with understanding these elements and building a clear, authentic narrative around them,” says Miguel Almeida, co-founder and CEO of WISEGUYS PROPERTIES.

“Architecture, light, materials and proportions all matter. The presentation is never artificial nor merely decorative; it’s about revealing what already exists and allowing the right audience to recognise it,” adds Alexandre, co-founder and CFO of the independent real estate firm.

After 4 years of the renovations carried out by @franciscotojalarquitectos , this 200 sqm house emerged as a carefully layered blend of Portuguese history and contemporary charm. Original details, such as the lift of the building, was uncovered like relics from another life, while clean lioz stone was added for a touch of old world romance overhead.

Four bathrooms became the sanctuary, five new closets were tucked into the layout of the 3 en-suite bedrooms, and a hidden door concealed within a custom wall installation to the laundry area gave the apartment an almost cinematic quality. Even the kitchen was entirely reimagined, trading dysfunction for understated elegance.

From 2015 to 2017, Francisco Tojal joined the studio of renowned architect and designer John Pawson, where he was part of the project team for the new Design Museum in London, as well as The Oaks, a luxury hotel and spa in the Czech Republic.

In 2018, Francisco returned to Lisbon and founded his own architectural studio, Francisco Tojal Arquitectos. Since then, he has worked as an independent architect, overseeing a diverse portfolio that includes refurbishments, new constructions, and interior design projects, covering a wide range of scales and functions.

The kitchen, entirely redesigned, balances precision and warmth, replacing dysfunction with understated elegance and fluid practicality.

Francisco Tojal’s architectural language, informed by his time at John Pawson’s London studio and work on projects including the Design Museum and The Oaks Hotel, is evident throughout. Spaces feel generous without excess, contemporary without detachment.
