Long before Raul Lino arrived in 1920, the Quinta de São Sebastião was a country estate of the age of King João V: royal arms, fountains, tanks and walls of tile.

In 1920 Raul Lino, the architect of the Portuguese house, did not draw from scratch: he rebuilt an eighteenth-century quinta at Paço do Lumiar.
